Introduction:
Peace is a state of freedom. It is a state of calmness and tranquility. It is free of distress. Merriam Webster, “a state of tranquility or quiet”
All people desire to have peace in some way. Some desire it selfishly for themselves and do evil things to get to that place, but others seek peace for themselves and others.
Often peace is the reason many go to war, the goal is to restore freedom and peace not to cause more chaos. The point is that peace is desired by all and all seek to attain it.
But what if peace is not something you have to work for but rather something that is a free gift?
What if you can actually have peace right now and never have to live in chaos again?
What if peace is more than just natural calmness and tranquility but has more to do with your heart, mind and soul?
What if peace is a state of believing and being rather than seeing and feeling?
I am referring to inner peace. This is the only real peace. Inner peace is something you can only attain in Christ. There is no other way.
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is our peace and the only way to true and real peace.
In this post we will discover what God has to say about inner peace and how we already have it in Christ, how we can believe it and live it, and the misconceptions involving peace.
Biblical Foundation:
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 26:3
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Romans 5:1
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Romans 8:6
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Isaiah 53:4-5
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Jesus’ Example
For as long as I can remember I have looked at the intense stress and suffering of Jesus in the garden of gethsemane as an excuse to be stressed rather than a solution to stress.
But recently God has shown me that Jesus experienced this intense suffering for two reasons. The first is to pay for our peace.
Isaiah plainly shows us here that Jesus took our punishment for our peace. Jesus didn’t suffer for us to be in spiritual, emotional, and mental turmoil. He suffered so that we could be free from spiritual strongholds and emotional bondage. Fear, worry, stress, and anxiety are all things that Jesus came to take away.
And the second reason Jesus experienced this moment is to show us that if we do suffer in this way, our Father is with us.
Jesus shows us that even if we do get to this place we are not forsaken or forgotten by God but we are still just as much free and loved. Jesus shows us how to pray and trust God in a situation like this.
In summary, Jesus experienced this extreme stress and turmoil so that we don’t have to, and so that if we do we know that Jesus did too and still prevailed.
We can have real hope then that whether we experience stress or not that God is with us and gave us the absolute solution, and that is Jesus.
He is our peace, He is our life, He is our Hope, He is our salvation, He is our Lord, and nothing else will make us free.
Practical Application
Isaiah 26:3
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Romans 8:6
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Our minds and our thoughts have great power in our lives. Not in the new age way of making and creating your reality, but in the way of your perspective and belief.
When you think of something for long enough you start to believe it and it flows into your actions. Out of the heart(mind) the mouth speaks. Our thinking shapes our beliefs and behaviors.
When your mind is set on the flesh, sin, and the law, death is the result because the actions that follow are sin which leads to death. But when your mind is set on God the actions that follow can only be love and peace!
You know a tree by its fruit and in the same way you know a man’s mind and thoughts by his actions.
This isn’t to say go around judging everyone by what you see, it means examine yourself, your mind, your actions and start to make the change and think on Him!
And once you have changed your thinking you will be able to see others clearly and help them to think on God too! Then you will be able to give mercy and not judgement. (James 2:13)
Reflection Questions:
- Do I believe that Jesus paid for my peace?

Prayer:
Father, I thank you so much for sending Jesus to pay for my peace.
I am so thankful that you are my Lord Jesus.
I ask you Holy Spirit that you will help me to see you clearly and be full of your peace.
Thank you for loving me.
Amen.
Conclusion:
Inner peace is real and amazing and already paid for!
Jesus bought it in His blood. He bought us with His blood.
So now we can have true peace knowing that we are His and that He loves us.
He is our Lord and shepherd and protector and life!
And our Father has given us His Spirit and His Word and His body to equip us for every good work.
And that includes the work of peace in our hearts, minds, and lives.
