The Bible is clear when it says, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?” (1 Corinthians 6:19). As believers, our bodies are the temple of God. To treat this temple poorly or neglectfully would be disrespectful to the One who desires to dwell in it.
Understanding that your body, mind, and spirit are not your own is the first step toward a desire for wellness. Consider this: imagine you live near the beach, and your best friend goes on a month-long work trip, leaving you in charge of their beautiful home and beloved dog. This house, adorned with priceless antiques, reflects their lavish lifestyle. They leave you with specific but challenging instructions: walk the dog on the beach every morning and evening and ensure the house is spotless when they return. They also make a surprising offer—if everything is as they expect, they’ll make you their business partner.
You’ve always dreamed of partnering with your friend, not just for the financial reward but because you genuinely want to work alongside them. If this scenario were real, how would you handle their request? Personally, I’d go above and beyond—keeping the house spotless, ensuring the dog was well cared for, and doing whatever it took to exceed expectations.
This analogy mirrors what it means for your body to be a temple. Your body isn’t yours; it belongs to the Lord. He created you uniquely and wonderfully. Your body, mind, and spirit were intelligently crafted, and the Owner desires not only a clean house but more importantly a deep relationship with you.
