Strong in Faith, Strong in Body: What is Christian Health Coaching?

Last updated on October 25th, 2025 at 03:57 pm

Introduction:

Men are called by God to lead their families, their work, their faith, and even their own health.
How can we lead others well if we can’t first master our own bodies and lifestyles?

Christian health coaching is a Christ-centered partnership that helps believers steward their health for God’s glory and overall higher quality of life.

In this post, we’ll unpack what Christian health coaching is, why it matters, and how it helps men grow stronger in both body and faith.

Biblical Foundation:

1 Timothy 4:8 “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things…”

1 Corinthians 6:19–20Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Physical training has some value. Not to take away from the far greater value of godliness leading to eternal life of course. But keeping your body healthy and being watchful as to what behaviors and lifestyles you allow yourself to partake in is highly important. Your body is not your own so take care of it like it’s the Lords because it is!

1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”

God’s Word tells us to encourage and build one another up. It isn’t easy to be healthy on your own, especially because many may have the intention to change behaviors and live healthier but just have no idea where to start.

That’s where a health coach comes in. Someone who is there for you and can help you find where you need to start, who can help you get to a place where you know how to do it on your own. Someone to encourage and be there for you along the journey.

We are to steward our bodies well, be good masters over our bodies, and deny the fleshly desires and gratify the godly ones. The body can be an amazing tool for the work of God’s kingdom, in fact it may be the best tool we have for the kingdom.

God made us in His image to love people and point people and all creation to Him. But if the body is master over us, and if we are led by our bodies desires and urges then only destruction will come from that.

Jesus’ Example

Jesus modeled holistic living, he rested, prayed, stayed in community, served, and physically endured(walking long distances, fasting, teaching tirelessly).

He is The example. Look at his life before his ministry. He worked hard as a carpenter and you know he did exceptional, he cared for his mother and family, He perfectly fulfilled the Law and modeled obedience in every area of life, every fast, every food restriction, every festival, etc.

Luke 5:16 — “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
Jesus made sure to rest and spend time with the Father. He didn’t allow for an opportunity to get burnt out, but he prioritized his spiritual and physical health to better serve us.

One of the most selfless things you can do ironically, is take care of yourself, not for your own satisfaction, but for God and for His people.

Jesus was the most spiritual but also the most natural, he was fully Divine and fully man, he cared for his family and his health and he cared for his relationship to the Father. If Christ, the Son of God, lived holistically, how much more should we his followers?

Practical Application

  • What Christian health coaching actually involves:
    • Health coaching is about helping you create sustainable, God-honoring habits through encouragement, planning, and accountability. A Christian health coach looks at your whole life — body, mind, and spirit — and helps you align every part of it with God’s will.
    • Setting Christ-centered goals for physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
    • Learning discipline through accountability and biblical encouragement.
    • Integrating prayer, Scripture, and faith into daily health habits.
  • Examples of how a coach helps:
    • Helps men break cycles of laziness, poor habits, or stress.
    • Assists in building a plan that honors God.
    • Encourages a mindset of stewardship instead of vanity.
    • Helps manage health challenges such as Hypertension, diabetes and Cardiovascular disease

Misconceptions:

Misconception 1: “Health coaching is worldly or vain.”
Truth: It’s about honoring God through stewardship, not pride.

Misconception 2: “Faith alone will fix my health.”
Truth: Faith inspires obedience and obedience includes action and discipline.

Misconception 3: “I can do it all alone.”
Truth: God designed us for community and accountability (Proverbs 27:17).

Reflection Questions:

  • Am I honoring God through how I care for my body and health?
  • What areas of my life lack discipline — physically, mentally, or spiritually?
  • How might a Christ-centered mentor or coach help me live with greater purpose and accountability?

Prayer:

“Father, thank You for the strength and health You’ve given me. Teach me to honor You with my health and to live a disciplined life that reflects Your holiness. Help me to live with purpose for Your glory. Amen.”

Conclusion:

Christian health coaching helps men align their physical discipline with their spiritual devotion. It helps you to create and maintain a lifestyle that honors God. When you care for your body, you strengthen your ability to serve, lead, and love like Jesus.
