Introduction:
I wrote a post about holistic health and what it is which you can find Here. However in this post you will discover how exactly to live holistically.
True wellness is about you as a whole person constantly living to adapt and grow in the midst of life’s challenges. The Wellness Alliance definition of wellness, “Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence.”
There are six dimensions of wellness also given by the Wellness Alliance, “emotional, occupational, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual” So holistic living is a lifelong journey of living life in the fullness of what you were created for.
Scriptural Insight
1 Timothy 4:8 states:
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness (spiritual training) is of value in everything and in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.” More than just general health we should keep our eyes on eternity. Absolutely holistic health matters here and now, but what matters most is our Spirit and Soul in eternity.
The true reason we live holistically is to live the life that God created us for. To deny our worldly desires and pursue godliness, purity, and righteousness. God created us to live to honor Him and we honor Him by stewarding the life He gave us. What will we do with the breath in our lungs? What will we do with the body he made for us? What will we do with the creative mind he gave us?
Step-by-Step Practical Application
Meditate on God’s Word Daily
How to do it:
- Set aside quiet time each day to read and reflect on Scripture.
- Instead of trying to clear your mind, fill it with God’s truth.
- Choose one verse or passage to think on and repeat throughout the day.
Scripture:
“I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” — Psalm 119:15–16
“You shall meditate on it day and night… For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” — Joshua 1:8
Why it matters:
Secular meditation focuses on self-awareness and personal ascension, but biblical meditation centers your thoughts on God, the only real source of lasting peace.
Exercise – Moving Your Body on Purpose
How to do it:
- Choose an activity you enjoy — walking, stretching, dancing, or workouts.
- Start small and be consistent, focusing on movement as an act of worship.
- Pray before and after to ask God for strength and thank Him for it.
- Make or Use an Exercise Plan
Why it matters:
Exercise helps control appetite, boost mood, and improve sleep, while also lowering the risk of disease and depression (Harvard Health).
When you exercise with gratitude, you honor God by honoring the temple He gave you.
Get and Stay Connected with Others
How to do it:
- Spend time with people who uplift and encourage you in faith.
- Serve and love others from the overflow of God’s love in you.
- Avoid isolation reach out, even with a simple message or prayer.
- Get in Community (Church)
- Have Accountability (Spouse, Friend, or Family Member)
Analogy:
Think of yourself as a river. God is your source, and His love flows through you to others. When the flow stops, life becomes stagnant — so stay connected to Him and your community.
Practice Gratitude in Every Season
How to do it:
- Write down three things you’re thankful for each morning or night.
- Thank God in every circumstance, not just when things go well.
- Turn moments of frustration into opportunities for praise.
Scripture:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Why it matters:
Gratitude shifts your focus from fear to faith. It brings peace, hope, and joy because it roots your heart in God’s will.
Nourish Your Body Wisely
How to do it:
- Learn the basics of nutrition — calories, macros, and healthy carbs. Check out myplate for good guidlines on nutrition. Myplate.gov
- Aim for balance, not perfection.
- Eat with mindfulness and thankfulness.
Why it matters:
Understanding how food fuels your body helps you steward your health with less stress. Start simple — each small change is a step toward honoring God with your choices.
Prioritize Rest and Sleep
How to do it:
- Create a bedtime routine: dim lights, pray, and disconnect from screens.
- Aim for 7–8 hours of restful sleep.
- Remember: adequate rest is obedience, not laziness.
Why it matters:
God designed our bodies to need rest. Sleep restores energy, improves focus, and strengthens your immune system — helping you serve Him more fully.
Seek Godly Counsel
How to do it:
- Talk to a biblically grounded counselor or mentor when needed.
- Choose guidance that aligns with God’s Word, not just worldly wisdom.
Why it matters:
Wise, Spirit-led counsel helps you process emotions, find healing, and grow in godly wisdom.
Explore Natural Healing
How to do it:
- Consult a licensed naturopathic doctor or health coach who holds to the faith.
- Use natural methods as complements, not replacements, for prayer and good stewardship.
Why it matters:
Naturopathic principles often align with biblical stewardship — caring for the body God entrusted to you.
Worship as a Way of Life
How to do it:
- Set aside moments each day to praise and thank God — through music, prayer, or silence.
- Worship in the midst of both joy and hardship.
Why it matters:
Worship shifts your focus from problems to God’s Presence in your life. It fills you with peace and strengthens your spirit to live a life that reflects His goodness.
Reflection
- Which of these practices can you start (or strengthen) this week?
- Ask God to reveal to you which of these practices you need to work on the most.
Prayer
“Father, thank You for giving me a body, mind, and spirit to honor You with. Help me practice honoring you by honoring the temple you’ve entrusted me with, help me to live a life pleasing to you. Let my life be a testimony of your goodness in Jesus name, Amen.”
