How to get shredded in the Spirit

How To Get And Stay Shredded In The Spirit

This time of year the hype is all around getting healthy and shredded. All about getting to the dream physique for the new year. New year new me right?

Getting shredded physically seems to be every mans dream. And these days it is so accessible with coaches on every corner of social media, and gyms in every town. We have so much access to help with our physical health.

As Christians we are not of the world but there are still many struggles that come with being in the world. One of which is the temptation to be too focused on the physical that we put our spiritual health on the back burner. Jealousy, pride, shame, arrogance and lust. All temptations you face in the realm of living a healthy life.

It is essential as Christian men that throughout our lifelong health journey we prioritize our spiritual health over all else. After all, our spirit is the eternal part of our being. And when our spirit is healthy then the rest of our being can be healthy too. Not only do we as individuals benefit from this but also those around us get to eat of that fruit.

In this post I will explain how to get and stay shredded in the Spirit. God gives us all that we need to get shredded in the spirit in His word, and He has given many the gift of teaching to be able to help others understand what He is saying in His Word.

More than that though He has given us His Holy Spirit to discern the truth for ourselves and to know whether what we are being taught is from Him or from mans own understanding.

What Does The Bible Have To Say?

Let’s start with what the Bible has to say about spiritual maxing.

All throughout the Word of God, God is teaching us about how to steward our spiritual health. With much of the Old Testament being the precursor to the realities given in the new testament.

For example, we have the priests in Leviticus who keep the fire burning in the temple, which is symbolic for every believer to stoke the fire of God in our hearts daily, fueling it with the Word and with intimate times with God.

Or the constant sacrifices of lambs and other animals which was a precursor to our faith and worship for Jesus who is our one and eternal sacrificial lamb.

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

One of the best things you can do to become spiritually shredded is by reading the Word of God. Think of the Word of God like the food in your diet. Every day you need food, and high quality nutrition to build and sustain your physique, and without good food your physique flops.

You need good nutrition and you need the Word of God. Maybe you like the OMAD diet where you only eat one meal a day within an hour timeframe. If that’s the case then sit down and read the Bible for an hour a day in one sitting.

Or maybe you eat 3-4 meals a day and sometimes some healthy snacks in between meals. Well if that’s the case then go ahead and read the Word 3-4 times a day for 15-30 minutes and read in between for a couple minutes here and there.

My point is that there isn’t a one for all right way to read the Word everyday, but whatever works best for you. As long as your getting your macro and calorie goals of course!

Jude 1:20-21 “But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.”

Another great way to spirit max is by praying and spending intimate time with God. When you pray and commune with God you build yourself up in your most holy faith. You are literally building your spiritual muscles.

This is the working out part of getting shredding in the spirit. Unlike with physical working out where you reach a limit because your muscles have given out, in the spirit there is no limit! You can just keep tearing those spiritual muscle fibers and they repair so quickly you never have to stop. You will only exponentially grow the more you pray and worship and spend time with Him. Paul tells us to pray without ceasing, (1 Thessalonians 5:17) because the more we pray the more shredded we get and the more we build the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Lastly the life force, the water you could say of getting shredded in the spirit is doing everything you do unto the glory of God! When you pursue getting shredded in the physical realm, the life force of this is the perspective you have and keep in the process. You start to see yourself as a healthy person, someone who has discipline, someone who is shredded and you live and do everything with the perspective of that person.

When everyone else is eating donuts or being lazy, you have no desire to do those things anymore because you don’t see yourself as someone who does those things. When your perspective is always to do all things unto the Lord then everything you do flows out of that perspective. Then even when you aren’t reading the Word or praying or worshipping you are still getting shredded.

Step-by-Step Practical Application

  1. Read the Word Every Day! Maybe it’s one hour in one sitting or 3 sittings for 20 minutes. It’s not so much a specific amount or time, its about getting the Word of God in you every day. One thing I like to do, and you can if you would like to also, is read the Word before I eat any natural food. Getting spiritually full before you get physically full sets you up for a day that is spirit led rather than flesh led.
  2. Pray every day! Like we discussed prayer is like our spiritual workout. When we pray we draw closer to God, and we get stronger in faith. Physical working out can easily lead to pride, but spiritual working out leads us more to humility.
  3. Worship every day! God is worthy of our worship. To worship is to prostrate yourself. It means to fully surrender and devote yourself. We worship God by giving Him our everything.
  4. Do everything for His Glory! This is all encompassing. Every day in everything you do big and small do it for and to Him. Live every second of your life with Him on your mind. This sounds extreme, but that is what being a genuine Christian is about, Being extremely in love with Jesus. You might not say it’s extreme when you are thinking of a girl all day long and doing things all day for her or because of her. How much more for the one who saved us and brought us into relationship and covenant with Him!

Prayer

Father God, I want to be absolutely shredded spiritually. I ask that you will show me what I need to do to fully surrender and give you everything. I ask that you will help me to do everything that was discussed in this post. Show me your ways and I will walk in them. Teach me and I will follow. I am yours completely. Thank you for loving and fathering me and causing my spiritual muscles to be larger than any before me. In Jesus’ name amen!

Conclusion

God has given us every tool we need to be successful in His kingdom. All we need to do is use the “workout equipment” He has given us so that we can be fully equipped for every good work. Physical health is absolutely important, but even greater is our spiritual health. So don’t neglect the most important part of your life. Give God your all and stay firm in the faith. Read the Word, Pray, Worship, and do all unto God every day. Getting spiritually shredded doesn’t take 90 days hard, it takes being with God 24/7, 365. Get ready for a lifetime of work, and a life time of true life.
